Women in the Genealogy of Jesus Desk Mat

Five Women in the Genealogy of Jesus Desk Mat — Matthew 1 | Biblical History & Bible Study

A LINE OF MEN. A STORY OF GRACE. A SAVIOR FOR ALL NATIONS.

Five Remarkable Women in the Genealogy of Jesus

Matthew begins his Gospel with a genealogy—a long line of fathers and sons tracing the ancestry of Jesus Christ.

But woven into that male genealogy are women whose names and stories Matthew deliberately brings into view.

Tamar. Rahab. Ruth. Bathsheba. Mary.

This richly detailed Bible study desk mat follows the genealogy of Jesus through Matthew 1 while highlighting these five remarkable women and the places where their stories intersect the messianic line.

Follow the lineage from Abraham to David and onward to Jesus, then explore each woman's story through Scripture.

The Five Women and Their Stories

Tamar — Genesis 38 | Matthew 1:3

Judah and Tamar became the parents of Perez, through whom the genealogical line continued toward David and ultimately Jesus.

Rahab — Joshua 2 | Matthew 1:5

The woman of Jericho who placed her faith in the God of Israel appears in Matthew's genealogy as the mother of Boaz.

Ruth — Ruth 1–4 | Matthew 1:5

A Moabite widow whose extraordinary loyalty and faith brought her into Israel and into the family line of David.

Bathsheba — 2 Samuel 11–12 | Matthew 1:6

Matthew strikingly identifies her as “her that had been the wife of Urias.” Through Solomon, the genealogy continues.

Mary — Luke 1 | Matthew 1:16

The pattern of “begat” changes as Matthew reaches Joseph and Mary:

“Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.” — Matthew 1:16 (KJV)
